A MUDDY MESS…IN LAND PARK!

A MUDDY MESS…IN LAND PARK!

Yup…that’s what I was…a muddy mess! However, I sure had fun gettin there! Yesterday was the annual Doggy Dash – a fundraiser for the local SPCA. Under normal circumstances, it would have been a sunny, beautiful June day. Unfortunately, our weather has been anything but normal, so despite the prayers of everyone involved, it rained…just as it has been doing all spring. Just as evidence of Sacramento’s dedication to it’s pets, the turnout was still impressive! Thousands of people and dogs sloshed through William Land Park’s normally hardy grass, now a mushy, muddy quagmire. Vendors pressed themselves to the middle of their canopies, hoping to keep their wares just a little dry. The dogs? Well the water-loving dogs not only enjoyed the rain, but relished in traipsing through the water filled gutters. The less enthusiastic dogs had owners who knew them well and covered them with rain coats or warm vests. The older ones were toted in flower-decorated wagons towed by loving owners. They all barked a little, whined a little, sniffed a lot and wagged tails. Me? Well, my dog has a tendency to pounce on me with her two front paws…a lot. She particularly enjoyed the water and the mud. So, as high as she could reach, I was muddy….and wet. Can you think of a better way of getting there? (oh…there will be a real photo as soon as my daughter can send it to me!) All in all, a great...
YOUR T-SHIRT SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOU!

YOUR T-SHIRT SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOU!

Have you really looked at the t-shirts you own? Have you thought about what they tell people about you? This occurred to me last night as I stood in my closet thinking I should really clean it out again. I have a lot of t-shirts I don’t wear…The truth of it is, I really treasure them, even though they are not exactly my style. I know this sounds a little contradictory until you understand where I got them.Thousands of dogs surrounded me as my daughter, a friend and I participated in SPCA’S Doggy Dash. It was soooo much fun! How did the organizers know I had paid my way? My t-shirt! And just to make it even more fun, my dog had a matching t-shirt of her very own! We walked a 5K, marveled at the fact that there could be so many breeds of essentially the same critter and caught up with each other’s latest news.We arrived to a flurry of activity as the poor foreman tried to organize a crew of rookies. We were to renovate a house for Rebuilding Together. My daughter and I traditionally paint the ceilings and trim of the exterior of the houses. I am not sure if more paint lands on the house or the painters, but it is a great feeling at the end of the day to know that we have made one families life just a little nicer. My t-shirt never survives without the color of the house on it, but that makes it even better!Finding our team was the big challenge when you consider that there were tens...

LAND PARK GOES TO THE DOGS!

I look forward to this event every year…after all, where else can you see (and hear) every breed of dog known to mankind (and some confusing breeds)? On Saturday, May 30th, William Land Park will be the venue for the 16th Annual Doggy Dash and Bark at the Park Festival. The Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals hosts this event each year to raise funds for animals sheltered at the Sacramento SPCA. People will start arriving bright and early at 7:30AM. At 9AM those who choose to walk the 2K or fun the 5K kick off the event. At the same time, those of us who wait until 9:20 for our 5K walk are entertained by the Dogs Agility Group Demonstrations…which is way fun! There are “pup” contests for the best wagger, smile, best tricks, kisser and finally the most magnificent pup. You can be in awe of the Champion Disc Dog Demonstration. Of course, the K-9 Unit of the Sacramento Police Department is there and whatever you do, don’t miss the pug races! It is a great morning and well worth getting up early for…so join us in Land Park for some great company and...
